Upper Lid Blepharoplasty Initial Consultation

I will ask you which aspects of your eyelids bother you and ask questions about your eyes, previous facial surgery/treatment, medication and general health.

I will look at your eyelids and brow position, and carry out a thorough examination of your eyes.

If I think you would benefit from surgery, we will talk through what is involved, the choice of anaesthetic, what your expectations should be, as well as the potential risks.

You will be encouraged to take time to consider your decision and let my secretary know a few days later if you wish to proceed.

If you do decide upon surgery, your blood pressure will be checked prior to the operation and photographs will be taken of your eyelids so that comparison can be made with the post-operative result. These photographs will be kept confidential and will form part of your clinical record.

About Mr. Karl Whittaker

I graduated from Birmingham University in 1992, and have been an Eye Specialist for almost 20 years.

Following my Ophthalmology Specialist Training, I completed two Fellowships (advanced training) in glaucoma, working with the world-renowned Professor Anthony Molteno in New Zealand and Professor Peter Shah in Birmingham. Thereafter, I undertook a Fellowship in oculoplastic/lacrimal surgery, again in Birmingham. As a result, I am dual-qualified, which allows me to perform a wide range of ophthalmic procedures.

I have been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust since 2003. In this role, I perform high volume cataract surgery and am the Clinical Lead for the Glaucoma and Oculoplastic/Lacrimal Surgery services.
